Women’s Empowerment and Unplanned Pregnancy Support: Pam’s Story

March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate women, their contributions, and the barriers they’ve overcome to achieve what once felt impossible. But today, conversations about women’s empowerment are often tied to one subject: abortion.

Many feminists frame abortion as empowering, arguing that reproductive freedom is essential to a woman’s autonomy and safety.

But for post-abortive women, the reality feels very different.

Their experiences are anything but empowering. Instead, abortion can become a lasting wound; one they were told wouldn’t affect them.

For our Mobile Health Clinic Manager, Pam, this issue is deeply personal. And now, she’s choosing to speak out.

Pam’s Abortion Story

When Pam was just 17, she discovered she was pregnant. She felt the weight of it all. Not just the fear of her own future, but the pressure of what this would mean for her parents, her church, and her boyfriend’s family.

Feeling scared and ashamed, Pam and her boyfriend decided to abort. He told her not to go near any Pregnancy Health Clinics, that they would call her parents, make her drop out of school, and sell her baby.

So, she looked at the yellow pages and found an abortion clinic.

Her abortion doctor confirmed all her fears. He told her it was true. She would be a high school dropout. She’d have a ruined body. But he was willing to “help” her.

Her abortion doctor knew she was underage. But instead of turning her away or involving her parents, he gave her a way around it. If she could bring the ID of someone who was 18, he would take care of everything.

What followed changed her life forever.

“The second I had my abortion, my body went into trauma,” Pam said.

“There’s no going back. There’s no undoing it.”

Pam Speaks Out About Her Abortion

For almost 30 years, Pam kept her story quiet, afraid of what people would think. But when she saw how abortion continued to hurt women, she knew God was calling her to speak out.

“I kept my abortion a secret, tucked in the deepest corner of my heart. I feared rejection if my friends, family, and church knew the reality of the choice I made… Isn’t that exactly where the enemy wants us? Ashamed and alone in our shame, guilt, and fear?”

Pam stepped past fear and made the brave choice to share her story.

“I made a promise to God to talk about it. I shared my story first to a group of teenage girls in my church youth group. If sharing my story helped one girl choose life, I felt that would be God redeeming my abortion. He had much bigger plans. The next day, I received an email about this work and knew that God had been waiting for me to be ready to share my story. Right when I did, He made a way for me to get to work for Him.”

God led Pam to Save the Storks, taking what was once her deepest pain and redeeming it for His purpose, using her story to reach women with truth, healing, and hope.

What Women Are Told About Abortion

When Pam faced an unplanned pregnancy decades ago, the lies and propaganda around pro-life clinics were already prevalent. Now, Pam is working to expose the lies many women are told about abortion and share the truth about life-affirming medical care.

“When I found out I was pregnant, I was urged to avoid pregnancy centers and walked right into the arms of an abortion provider. Many women still face the same fear- they are worried about being judged for being afraid of their positive pregnancy test- and the changed future that would give them.”

“I love mobile ministry because you can meet her in the crossroads of her decision- providing access to accurate answers that help her see all the ways she can prepare for motherhood. It is an honor every day to watch the Lord work through His people- at the front line. All for the good of humanity, and all Glory goes to God for that.”

Real Empowerment Means Real Choice

Culture says abortion is empowering for women. But Pam knows firsthand that true empowerment doesn’t come from a quick fix.

It comes when women receive dignified care, truth, and the support they need to confidently choose life.

“Empowerment means that she does not feel forced or cornered into a decision, but instead feels capable of overcoming barriers, whether financial, emotional, or social, to embrace motherhood or make a confident adoption plan.”

Pam brings a unique perspective to her work because she knows exactly how women facing unplanned pregnancy feel.

“Women don’t want to be talked into anything, or out of it for that matter. Women are empowered when they have the knowledge, confidence, and freedom to decide for themselves without pressure. Women want to be understood, to believe their decision matters, and that they are in the driver’s seat of their life. At Save the Storks, we help empower women by giving them truthful answers and showing them a path where they can thrive as a mom.”

To Women Facing an Unplanned Pregnancy

Pam’s message to women facing an unplanned pregnancy today is both loving and direct:

“Abortion is a decision that can’t be undone. The world says ‘it’s your body, your choice,’ but it isn’t. It is your baby. In your belly is the grandchild of your parents, the sibling to your future children. It takes 40 weeks to grow a baby. That’s lots of time to prepare for his/her big arrival. You were uniquely chosen to be the mom for this baby. You’ve got this. Help is here!”

You Can Help Support Women

Pam continues to share her story in the hope that women facing the pain of abortion will find healing and the courage to speak out.

“I hope that every time I share my story, hearts are softened, that people see the pain caused after choosing abortion, that people who are grieving their abortion choice will be able to accept Christ’s forgiveness, and that couples will choose life and start their families.”

DEAR READER

We hope this article enlightened and inspired you to stand up for life.

Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions are still prevalent in our nation. As a response to the overturning, the media: from the news to entertainment sources to even political figures and celebrities, have pushed abortion as an ongoing agenda, shaping the way this generation thinks and acts. Misinformation is being spread every day, and people are sadly believing the lies.

Our articles and stories aim to tell one thing: the truth.

We know that it is both a blessing and a challenge to understand the reality of abortion, because knowledge incites belief, and belief incites action. But we’re in this together. We believe that we can make abortion unthinkable.

With your support, we look forward to a future where young women are empowered to fight for their own rights: a right to bring life into the world, to be fearless leaders, to be examples of hope, strength, and undeterred resilience. We look forward to a future where life can happen.

If this article strengthened your belief to reach women everywhere with the truth and to let life happen, then please consider helping us extend our reach by making a gift right now. Your gift of just $10 or $20 helps our mission to create a story of hope and empowerment for every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy.

We aim to create a culture that views “pro-life” as equivalent to having empathy and compassion, providing holistic care (before and beyond pregnancy) and education, and most importantly, choosing to speak and act in love. We are pro-life, pro-love, pro-woman, pro-solution.

Don’t just be part of the movement, be part of the solution, and give today.
