Major Gift Officer
Organization: Save the Storks
Location: Plano, Texas (Hybrid: Work from home + in-office collaboration days)
Job Summary:
A leading life-affirming ministry, Save the Storks is seeking a full-time Major Gift Officer (MGO) who is passionate about building authentic relationships with donors and inviting them into a mission that protects life and supports women and families. This role is ideal for someone who sees fundraising as ministry through relationship, not just transactions.
The Major Gift Officer will manage and grow a portfolio of major donors and prospects, cultivating meaningful relationships and securing transformational gifts that advance the organization’s mission. Reporting to the Senior Major Gift Officer, this individual will combine strategic thinking with a results-driven approach, actively identifying and qualifying new donor opportunities while deepening engagement with existing supporters.
Major Qualifications
Major Gift Fundraising:
- Manage a dynamic portfolio of approximately 100–150 qualified major donors and major donor prospects
- Cultivate meaningful, long-term relationships with major donors
- Share impact stories that connect donors to the mission
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors capable of giving $10,000+ annually
- Secure 5+figure gifts through personalized engagement strategies
- Develop and execute individual donor strategies, including moves management plans
Major Donor Prospecting & Pipeline Development
- Proactively identify, research, and qualify new major donor prospects through internal data, referrals, events, and external tools (e.g., wealth screening, DonorSearch)
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of high-capacity prospects to ensure sustained portfolio growth
- Partner with Marketing team to convert mid-level and new donors into major gift prospects
- Leverage networking, events, and peer-to-peer connections to expand the donor base
Relationship Management & Stewardship
- Build deep, trust-based relationships with donors through consistent, meaningful touchpoints
- Execute high-level stewardship strategies including impact reporting, personalized outreach, and donor recognition
- Partner with Marketing to deliver compelling, donor-centric communications
Portfolio Strategy & Performance
- Maintain accurate donor records, activity tracking, and pipeline management within Salesforce
- Set and achieve revenue goals tied to portfolio performance
- Analyze donor data and engagement trends to optimize strategy and increase lifetime value
- Upgrade major donor portfolio giving by 5-10% annually
Collaboration & Representation
- Work closely with Development and Marketing teams to align messaging and donor experience
- Represent Save the Storks at events, donor meetings, and key engagements (local and occasional travel)
- Support leadership in high-level donor strategy and major gift initiatives
Qualifications
Required Experience
- 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with a focus on major gifts
- Demonstrated success in securing 5+figure gifts
- Proven experience managing and growing a major donor portfolio
- Proven experience in major donor prospecting and pipeline development
- Strong background in donor stewardship, cultivation, and relationship management
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Strategic thinker with strong organizational and time management abilities
- Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce preferred)
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and donor sensitivity
Preferred Experience
- Experience in faith-based or mission-driven nonprofit organizations
- Familiarity with donor analytics, segmentation, and moves management frameworks
- Experience partnering with Events team and corporate sponsorships
Physical and Other Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Travel required up to 15% of the year
Work Environment
- Hybrid role based in Plano, TX (combination of remote work and in-office collaboration)
- Local travel for donor meetings; occasional national travel as needed
