During National Adoption Month, Save the Storks CEO Diane Ferraro highlights how adoption transcends political lines, earning bipartisan recognition from Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton

PLANO, Texas — One decision to pursue adoption can shape generations, according to pro-life organization Save the Storks, which is marking National Adoption Month by sharing the experiences of families whose lives have been transformed through adoption.

Diane Ferraro, CEO of Save the Storks, knows that impact personally. Adopted as a child alongside her brother, Ferraro later became an adoptive mother after experiencing infertility. Her story illustrates how adoption can create enduring family relationships while also presenting challenges that require patience and support.

“My brother and I had always known we were adopted,” Ferraro said. “Our mom told us we were loved twice as much because of the mother who put us up for adoption and the mother who adopted us.”

Ferraro became involved with Olive Crest, a foster family ministry in Santa Ana, California, during college. Years later, after marriage, she decided to pursue adoption. She has described the experience as a journey that required commitment rather than instant connection.

“The adoption journey had its ups and downs,” Ferraro noted. “While I didn’t instantly connect, I made my home a safe and loving space, and I was there for my daughter every step of the way.”

Adoption isn’t a religious issue, though caring for orphans is mentioned throughout the Bible. And as demonstrated by Republican and Democratic leaders of this country, the need for adoption crosses party lines. President Ronald Reagan established National Adoption Week in 1984, and President Bill Clinton issued a presidential proclamation for National Adoption Month in 1995.

National Adoption Month draws attention to children awaiting permanent families and to the needs of birth parents, adoptees and adoptive families. According to the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, more than 368,000 children are in U.S. foster care on a given day. More than 108,000 are eligible for adoption and wait nearly three years on average for an adoptive family.

Save the Storks says women facing unexpected pregnancies should receive accurate information about parenting and adoption, without pressure or judgment. The nonprofit partners with pregnancy health clinics and operates Mobile Medical Clinics to bring services and practical assistance to communities.

“A woman considering adoption deserves timely, trustworthy information and people who will stand beside her, whatever questions she brings,” Ferraro said. “One ‘yes’ can change lives, but compassionate support must come before and after that decision.”

Ferraro is available for interviews about adoption’s lifelong effects, the importance of discussing every pregnancy option and the role of sustained care. Additional adoption stories and resources are available through the organization’s adoption information page. The organization encourages families to learn about adoption programs, including available counseling and continuing support.

DEAR READER

We hope this article enlightened and inspired you to stand up for life.

Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions are still prevalent in our nation. As a response to the overturning, the media: from the news to entertainment sources to even political figures and celebrities, have pushed abortion as an ongoing agenda, shaping the way this generation thinks and acts. Misinformation is being spread every day, and people are sadly believing the lies.

Our articles and stories aim to tell one thing: the truth.

We know that it is both a blessing and a challenge to understand the reality of abortion, because knowledge incites belief, and belief incites action. But we’re in this together. We believe that we can make abortion unthinkable.

With your support, we look forward to a future where young women are empowered to fight for their own rights: a right to bring life into the world, to be fearless leaders, to be examples of hope, strength, and undeterred resilience. We look forward to a future where life can happen.

If this article strengthened your belief to reach women everywhere with the truth and to let life happen, then please consider helping us extend our reach by making a gift right now. Your gift of just $10 or $20 helps our mission to create a story of hope and empowerment for every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy.

We aim to create a culture that views “pro-life” as equivalent to having empathy and compassion, providing holistic care (before and beyond pregnancy) and education, and most importantly, choosing to speak and act in love. We are pro-life, pro-love, pro-woman, pro-solution.

Don’t just be part of the movement, be part of the solution, and give today.
