National nonprofit emphasizes ongoing medical, emotional and community care and support for grieving families beyond October’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss Month

PLANO, Texas — October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and national pro-life organization Save the Storks is calling attention to the importance of care for women and families long after a miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.

Pregnancy loss affects many families and is deeply personal. The Mayo Clinic estimates that about one in four recognized pregnancies ends in miscarriage. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that stillbirth affects about one in 175 births, with approximately 21,000 babies stillborn annually in the United States.

“Behind every statistic is a mother, a child and a family whose grief deserves to be acknowledged,” said Diane Ferraro, CEO of Save the Storks. “Compassion cannot end after the first phone call or the funeral. Families need people who will keep showing up in the weeks and months ahead.”

The organization says women experiencing loss may need follow-up medical attention, emotional support and practical help as they navigate grief. Save the Storks encourages communities to remember affected families beyond the immediate aftermath and to make room for different experiences of mourning.

Through partnerships with pregnancy health clinics and local support networks, Save the Storks seeks to connect women with resources throughout pregnancy and after loss. Its broader outreach includes Mobile Medical Clinics that bring health services to communities with limited access.

“A woman who has lost a pregnancy should never feel that her need for care has been overlooked or forgotten,” Ferraro said. “Clinics, friends, faith communities and neighbors can offer steady, respectful support without imposing a timetable on healing.”

Save the Storks has also shared the account of staff member Jessica, who described the personal difference between a population-level statistic and a pregnancy she lost. Her story reflects the complicated emotions that can accompany a subsequent pregnancy.

“People tell you miscarriage is common… but when it’s yours, it’s not a statistic. It’s your baby.”

“No family should have to carry this pain in silence,” Ferraro said. “Our message this October is simple: remember the babies who died and remain present for the people who love them.”

DEAR READER

We hope this article enlightened and inspired you to stand up for life.

Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions are still prevalent in our nation. As a response to the overturning, the media: from the news to entertainment sources to even political figures and celebrities, have pushed abortion as an ongoing agenda, shaping the way this generation thinks and acts. Misinformation is being spread every day, and people are sadly believing the lies.

Our articles and stories aim to tell one thing: the truth.

We know that it is both a blessing and a challenge to understand the reality of abortion, because knowledge incites belief, and belief incites action. But we’re in this together. We believe that we can make abortion unthinkable.

With your support, we look forward to a future where young women are empowered to fight for their own rights: a right to bring life into the world, to be fearless leaders, to be examples of hope, strength, and undeterred resilience. We look forward to a future where life can happen.

If this article strengthened your belief to reach women everywhere with the truth and to let life happen, then please consider helping us extend our reach by making a gift right now. Your gift of just $10 or $20 helps our mission to create a story of hope and empowerment for every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy.

We aim to create a culture that views “pro-life” as equivalent to having empathy and compassion, providing holistic care (before and beyond pregnancy) and education, and most importantly, choosing to speak and act in love. We are pro-life, pro-love, pro-woman, pro-solution.

Don’t just be part of the movement, be part of the solution, and give today.
