Annaliese’s Story: Prescribed Abortion Pills, But Given A Better Choice

When Annaliese first called the Pregnancy Health Clinic, the receptionist, Anya, could hear the strain in her voice. Annaliese shared that she was pregnant, but uncertain about what to do. She had just welcomed a baby six months earlier and felt overwhelmed by the thought of another pregnancy so soon.

“I’m not sure I can handle this,” she admitted.

Anya gently asked if Annaliese would be open to talking through her concerns with one of our nurses. She agreed, and soon after, the clinic’s nurse, Laura, returned her call.

“I Was Told Abortion Was My Only Option”

During that conversation, Annaliese explained that her OB/GYN had strongly advised her to have an abortion due to her history of medically complicated pregnancies. She was calling to ask whether abortion pills would be covered by her insurance.

Laura compassionately explained that before taking abortion pills, it is medically important to have an ultrasound to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. She also reassured Annaliese that all of the clinic’s services—including the ultrasound—would be provided completely free of charge. Annaliese agreed to come in the following week.

Holding the Pills, Carrying the Weight

When Annaliese arrived for her appointment, she was holding the abortion pills prescribed by her doctor. She shared that she hadn’t been considering any other options. With several children at home and a difficult medical history, she had been told after her last pregnancy that she should not become pregnant again.

Yet despite believing abortion was her only choice, Annaliese hesitated.

“I love my children. I love my babies,” she said. “I’ve never had to do something like this before.”

During the ultrasound, Annaliese heard her baby’s heartbeat, and tears filled her eyes.

A Moment That Changed Everything

After the ultrasound, Laura gently asked if Annaliese had considered getting a second medical opinion. Annaliese shared that she had thought about switching OB/GYNs and mentioned that her sister had a doctor she trusted. Laura encouraged her to pursue that option and also offered referrals to OBs experienced in supporting high-risk pregnancies.

As the appointment wrapped up, Annaliese mentioned something: she had already been taking prenatal vitamins.

“Maybe that’s why we heard the heartbeat today,” she said.

From Uncertainty to Hope

During the first follow-up phone call, Annaliese sounded tired and nauseous. She hadn’t yet been able to see another doctor for a second opinion, but she asked carefully, “Did he say it was normal?”

Laura reassured her that the clinic’s doctor said the ultrasound showed a viable pregnancy and emphasized the importance of following up with an OB as soon as possible. Annaliese was invited to return for another ultrasound the following week.

Then came the second follow-up call.

Before Laura could ask how she was doing, Annaliese shared her decision.

“I’m keeping the baby,” she said. “It’s in God’s hands.”

She explained that she wanted a doctor who would support her, not one who spoke to her only in terms of risk and fear. When asked what ultimately led her to choose life, Annaliese responded simply and powerfully:

I don’t believe in aborting my baby. And if God helped me through my last pregnancy, He can help me through this one.”

By the end of the call, Annaliese felt at peace. She allowed Laura to pray with her for herself and her baby. Her family is now joyfully preparing to welcome a new little one this March.

DEAR READER

We hope this article enlightened and inspired you to stand up for life.

Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions are still prevalent in our nation. As a response to the overturning, the media: from the news to entertainment sources to even political figures and celebrities, have pushed abortion as an ongoing agenda, shaping the way this generation thinks and acts. Misinformation is being spread every day, and people are sadly believing the lies.

Our articles and stories aim to tell one thing: the truth.

We know that it is both a blessing and a challenge to understand the reality of abortion, because knowledge incites belief, and belief incites action. But we’re in this together. We believe that we can make abortion unthinkable.

With your support, we look forward to a future where young women are empowered to fight for their own rights: a right to bring life into the world, to be fearless leaders, to be examples of hope, strength, and undeterred resilience. We look forward to a future where life can happen.
