National nonprofit highlights diverse paths to motherhood and affirms the value of life as families prepare for May 10 observance of Mother’s Day

PLANO, TexasSave the Storks, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a story of hope and empowerment for every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy, marks Mother’s Day by celebrating the joy of motherhood and the many ways women experience it.

With Mother’s Day on May 10, preceded by Birth Mother’s Day on May 9, the organization is encouraging Americans to reflect on the unique journeys that lead women to become mothers, whether through birth, adoption, fostering, stepparenting or mentorship.

For Save the Storks, the annual holiday represents more than a cultural observance. It is a reminder of the profound role mothers play in shaping families and communities.

“Motherhood is one of the most meaningful callings a woman can experience, and it comes in many forms,” said Diane Ferraro, CEO of Save the Storks.

Ferraro shared her own story of longing for motherhood and ultimately embracing a broader understanding of what it means to nurture and care for others.

“Like most little girls, I imagined I’d be a mom when I grew up… I just knew that being a mom was what I was called to do,” she said.

Her journey includes being adopted and becoming a foster mother, adoptive mother, stepmother, and mentor to many young women. Ferraro said those experiences have shaped her understanding of motherhood as both a personal and spiritual calling.

“My adopted daughter is in her twenties, and will soon be a mother herself. This Mother’s Day, I am choosing to reflect on what I do have… a relationship with my birth mother, foster children God trusted me with for a season; an adopted teenager who needed an advocate to keep her safe; adult stepdaughters God blessed me with after so much loss; goddaughters God gave me; nieces who God granted with creativity and tenacity… so many amazing young women I’ve been able to mentor over the years.”

Save the Storks works to support women by providing access to resources, including mobile medical clinics that offer services such as ultrasounds and connections to local support networks. Save the Storks also has a national partner program that connects pregnancy health clinics across the country, as well as a digital platform that provides women with always-on access to care, resources and real options.

Ferraro recently highlighted the impact of these services in her remarks at the Colorado March for Life, where she shared the story of a young woman who changed her mind after taking the abortion pill.

“It was about a year ago… when I received a phone call I’ll never forget,” the CEO recalled. “A young woman was driving back from Colorado. She had driven to our state for the chemical abortion. She changed her mind and didn’t know what to do, and we quickly went into action.”

Ferraro said the organization connected the woman with Abortion Pill Reversal Network and a local pregnancy health clinic, along with additional care: “She called me to say that her baby survived. She delivered her beautiful baby girl in October.”

The story, Ferraro said, reflects the broader mission of Save the Storks to offer practical help and encouragement to mothers in all their forms.

“Mother’s Day is a moment to pause and recognize the strength, sacrifice and love that mothers show every day,” Ferraro said. “We want every woman to know she is seen, valued and supported, no matter her path to motherhood.”

DEAR READER

We hope this article enlightened and inspired you to stand up for life.

Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions are still prevalent in our nation. As a response to the overturning, the media: from the news to entertainment sources to even political figures and celebrities, have pushed abortion as an ongoing agenda, shaping the way this generation thinks and acts. Misinformation is being spread every day, and people are sadly believing the lies.

Our articles and stories aim to tell one thing: the truth.

We know that it is both a blessing and a challenge to understand the reality of abortion, because knowledge incites belief, and belief incites action. But we’re in this together. We believe that we can make abortion unthinkable.

With your support, we look forward to a future where young women are empowered to fight for their own rights: a right to bring life into the world, to be fearless leaders, to be examples of hope, strength, and undeterred resilience. We look forward to a future where life can happen.

If this article strengthened your belief to reach women everywhere with the truth and to let life happen, then please consider helping us extend our reach by making a gift right now. Your gift of just $10 or $20 helps our mission to create a story of hope and empowerment for every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy.

We aim to create a culture that views “pro-life” as equivalent to having empathy and compassion, providing holistic care (before and beyond pregnancy) and education, and most importantly, choosing to speak and act in love. We are pro-life, pro-love, pro-woman, pro-solution.

Don’t just be part of the movement, be part of the solution, and give today.
